What’s a skill you consider basic, that most people don’t actually know how to do?
You would think that communication would be an easy concept. But the truth is, it is rather difficult.
The best answer I can give for this is, it’s reasoning.
The problem with communication is everybody grew up in a different environment. We learned communication skills from our parents and siblings. Later on it became our school peers that the responsibility was placed on.
Culture also makes communication tough. What I call grits, somebody else might call Malt-O-Meal (do they even still make that?).
Another example: Pop and Soda.
The most important skill to have is communication. And I think a lot of people, not just me, feel communication is the most important thing in a relationship. Two people need to communicate with each other, regardless of what you were taught about communication while you were growing up.
Lastly, when two people often misunderstand each other it’s helpful to get a therapist involved that can be a mediator, as well as a teacher for good communication.
Personally, I think everybody should be in therapy. They should make it a regular, required course . Lack of communication skills is the root of all problems.
So, speak up, even if it comes out wrong at first. If you have supportive people in your life, they won’t immediately just walk away. They will or can help you find the words you’re trying to communicate to them.
Communication can sometimes feel intimidating and maybe even overwhelming. Especially when that false pride gets in the way. There is no such thing as pride if you just simply say, “I don’t know…”.
With that being said, everybody have an amazing day.
